Tyra Banks is commemorating herself for being the first African American supermodel to appear solo on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition by donning the same red polka dot bikini she wore 10 years ago.

Said Tyra of the swimsuit’s adjustments: “”I was about 140 pounds on that cover … and I’m 161 now. I’d say I looked like a stripper when I put it on. They covered the sides of my chest so that it wasn’t so much hangin’ out. And they put some extenders on the sides of the bikini bottom so it fit. I think there’s more power in embracing what I am now and showcasing that. I’m thinking that I should probably do this every 10 years. So, in 2017 maybe I’ll get in the swimsuit again and I’ll have to get them to add a little more fabric.”

Celebrities came out in droves for music mogul Clive Davis‘ pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday night in Beverly Hills — Tyra Banks, Whitney Houston, Ellen DeGeneres with girlfriend Portia De Rossi, Ciara, Vanessa Minnillo with boyfriend Nick Lachey, and JC Chasez (below). Whitney is wearing Roberto Cavalli.

Justin Timberlake backed out of performing because he has the flu. I knew he didn’t look all there on Friday Night at the launch of “JT-TV.” Maybe he got the cooties from K-Fed when they hugged. Anything’s possible, right? I wonder if Justin’s going to be a no show at the Grammys…

Clive found a quick replacement for Justin and tapped Motown music legend Smokey Robinson to perform “My Girl.” (Sidenote: Clive signed UK’s Leona Lewis in a $10 million contract.)

The bigger the star, the less time they spend on the red carpet. It appeared that [Christina] Aguilera only stopped for still photographers and then just kept walking down the red carpet.

We were given warning, “Clive and Whitney are coming down. They’re not going to stop, so get your shot.”

And indeed, they didn’t. A reporter shouted, “Whitney, how are you doing?” She said, without missing a step, “Cavalli, Cavalli,” referring to her dress designer, who also attended the party.

Obviously not one of Tyra’s best looks…

Inside, Banks weighs in on the tabloid attacks she’s endured since gaining 30 pounds after retiring from modeling last year (”Tyra Talks,” Page 82).

In her teens, Banks was so thin –5-10 and 110 pounds — that schoolmates nastily dubbed her “Ethiopia.” Now, the tabloids are printing unflattering pictures of the Rubenesque Banks with headlines such as “Tyra Porkchop” and “America’s Next Top Waddle.”

Tyra Banks is always up for a publicity stunt. Last year she did an X-ray on “The Tyra Banks Show” to prove her breasts weren’t fake. But this six-page feature seems a sincere attempt by Banks to rejigger our outworn notions of beauty.
