HOLLYWOOD superstar Tara Reid swept into the Northern Territory yesterday for a holiday and a “great time”.

The glamorous starlet turned heads when she arrived at the Darwin International Airport before being whisked away in a black Chrysler stretch limousine.

Reid, 32, was in town as a special guest at last night’s 2007 Hookers’ Ball at Discovery Nightclub.

Reid told the Northern Territory News that she was excited to be in the Territory but was exhausted from her travel from Los Angeles, via Sydney the day before.

“I’m really happy to be in Darwin,” she said.

“It’s going to be a great night and I am really excited to be here.”

Reid has been the target of a bevy of attacks after agreeing to attend the event, celebrating its 21st birthday.

Online gossip columns have even gone as far as to say the appearance marks the end of her career.

The American Pie star said those criticising her had got it wrong.

“People who want to bag me out are narrow-minded,” she said.

“This is a costume party and everyone is out to have fun and be a little bit crazy. It would be like bagging Halloween.”

Reid’s spokesman Richard Squire said the criticism was unfounded.

“It’s disappointing an annual costume party has been misinterpreted and has been used as an excuse to unfairly criticise Tara,” he said.

Reid took centre stage at the Ball before a packed crowd after 10pm.

While in Darwin she plans on taking a helicopter tour, getting up-close and personal with a crocodile, and hosting a charity dinner.

What is she thinking?! Unlike most people who hit Walmart and Target up at 4am, Tara decided to look for some holiday sales on Robertson Blvd.

Tara Reid was spotted making her way through LAX airport on Tuesday (November 20). The former Taradise host has just wrapped up filming on her latest movie, Vipers.

Never one to shy away from showing a little skin, it comes as no surprise that photogs on the scene were able to catch the 32-year-old with her pants down.

Recently, Tara has been making headlines for reportedly stirring up trouble on the Vancouver set of her new flick, with the movie’s director bad-mouthing her behind her back as a result of her bad behavior.

Denying these claims, the producer of Vipers, Mary Anne Waterhouse, told OK! magazine, “Tara has been a complete professional. The entire cast and crew have enjoyed working with her.”

Echoing the same sentiments, director Bill Corcoran tells, “I don’t understand where these false reports are coming from. They can’t be further from the truth. Tara has been a delight to direct.”

Tara Reid has dismissed reports she was hospitalised as a result of alcohol abuse earlier this month.

The ‘American Pie’ star was said to have checked into the Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina Del Ray, California for a nine-day stay to undergo tests for liver damage.

The reformed Hollywood wildchild was discharged at the weekend, according to US reports

Doctors worked around the clock to diagnose the 31-year-old, who checked into the Marina Del Rey medical centre in a distressed state. They discovered she had elevated liver enzymes.

But Reid has denied the reports, insisting: “I’m fine.”

“They make everybody into little puppets, saying you’re Miss Piggy or Kermit with a funny voice, but it’s up to you to change your individuality. I had fun, but in America it’s bad to have fun and you get punished for it, whereas in Europe and other places they rejoice in having fun. But now there are girls in America like Paris [Hilton] and I start thinking, wait, what made me a bad girl? I’ve never been arrested. I wonder if some people start thinking, ‘We made this girl out to be bad just for having a good time.’ I don’t think I should ever be punished for being happy.”

Tara on her partying past:
“Everyone does, but you’ll never read a story about me going out and partying when I’m supposed to be working, showing up on a set drunk or missing a day, never. But when I’m not working why shouldn’t I have fun? Am I supposed to stay at home and live in a cage? I like to have fun and have people around me. I think the reason I never ended up in as much trouble as Paris or Lindsay [Lohan] is that I’m not stupid, so I’d never do a lot of the things those girls do, and I’ve always had good friends around me.”

Tara on her plastic surgery woes:
“I had surgery [breasts enhancement and liposuction] and it didn’t go well at all. To be honest with you, it was a disaster. But who wants that to happen? You go to look better not worse. So I regret ever even having it, but that’s what I did and I can’t take it back. I’ve learned by all my mistakes.”
