Jude Law opens the 60th Cannes Film Festival Wednesday with the New York-California road trip tale directed by Wong Kar Wai. This film will mark the acting debut of Norah Jones. Co-stars Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz did not make it to the kick-off.

“I remember the first take we did, my voice was really [squeaks] high,” Norah told The Associated Press. “I was just terribly nervous, and Kar-wai came over and patted me on the back and I relaxed a little.”

Kar-Wai was impressed with Norah’s acting abilities: “We rolled the camera and she cried, and after that I said, ‘well, it’s great,’ and she said, ‘do you want one more?’”

Co-stars Jude Law and Cameron Diaz promote their latest film The Holiday at Park Tower Hall on Wednesday morning in Tokyo, Japan.

Cameron told the 200-strong media that she wants a new man in her life, saying, “I want somebody to come and show me what he’s got. You just gotta do it. You just gotta get out there and seek those things out for yourself. Life is definitely a roller-coaster, it’s an adventure and it’s just all about how you participate in it, if you choose to participate in it, and about going out there and having a good time and good things come to you.””

Cameron swaps lives (and houses) with Kate Winslet’s in The Holiday. She joked to reporters, “I have to say selfishly, I have gone to other people’s homes and rented other people’s homes, but I would not let anybody else stay at my house. Hypothetically speaking, if you were to stay at my house, you would enjoy the experience, it’s a pretty positive environment.”

Jude spoke out a little on the film: “I think [writer/director] Nancy [Meyers] gives great advice in this film. I think you’ve got to make change, look in yourself, fall in love with yourself and people will fall in love with you.”

The Holiday open in theaters on March 24 in Japan.

Jude Law received one of France’s top honors for his contribution to film on Thursday morning at the French Embassy in London, England.

French ambassador Gerard Errera awarded Jude, 34, with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres medal and described Jude as “simply one of the most talented actors today”.

After receiving the medal, Jude thanked the ambassador for his “wonderful words” but was too stunned to say much: “I am speechless. My mum and dad have lived in France for 15 years so really it is a country I share as my home.”

Said Jude’s father, Peter Law, after the ceremony: [We are] very, very proud. What is significant is that the French have recognized Jude in so many different facets. They seem to have a whole view of him as a man and that is what is so touching.”

Jude was recently honored with the Cesar film award for his impressive body of film work.
