A newly single Jessica Simpson still manages a smile while dining out at Swing Grill restaurant in Hollywood on Wednesday.

Simpson and John Mayer reportedly split for good with a source close to Mayer telling People, “It has been rocky and it had been rocky, and it reached the end of the road. It is definitely over – the relationship has ended. They tried to make it work (when they met in New York and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico). Every relationship has its differences, but with Jessica and John those differences were starting to become more and more apparent.”

A source close to Simpson added, “They broke up Sunday night, but who knows what the future will hold. This is the twelfth time they’ve broken up. Their relationship is volatile. Last week they felt better than ever. This week, things are rocky. Who knows what the future will bring. She loves [John] but she has to be true to herself.”

Dressed in a bust-outlining top, Jessica Simpson catches lunch with a friend at department-store eatery Fred’s at Barneys on NYC’s Madison Avenue on Wednesday.

For better or worse, Jessica recently admitted that she’s concentrating on her movie career and won’t be making any new albums until her heart is in it.

“It’s very hard to be singing big ballads about love when your heart is broken,” she said.

Added Simpson about the dance music on her last album, “I did that material because I didn’t want my fans to think I was sad. But I was, and I’m going to wait until things are right.”
